A view from up high

This has been part of my world for the last three years where in my spare time I have been trudging round a building site taking photos of the conversion of an old Hospital. It was my parents world during their working life and the work was more of a tribute to them. These photos are some thing they would never have seen .

This is Fairmile Hospital as it looks now, my parents worked here most of their life.

The lived in the village of Cholsey, in the distance you can see Didcot Power station
And here we look over towards the Town of Wallingford
and last a landmark with can be seen round the area, Wittenham Clumps.
The photos were taken from on top of the boiler house chimney something my parents would have seen every day they went to work. If you would like to see more then check the  link

Ducks on the Bank

Along with the odd pigeon, they seemed quite tame but no doubt that is because they get fed here along the bank of the Kennet in Reading.

The Memorial Gardens

King George the V Memorial gardens are near the Royal Berks Hospital in Reading.

The Garden was created between 1835 & 1840 as part of a smart development at Eldon Square. It was taken over by Reading Corporation in 1944 and converted to a garden of Ease for the residents of Reading.
The statue in the garden is Rufus Daniel Issacs (1860 - 1935) first Marquis of Reading, Attorney General & Lord Chief Justice and Viceroy of India. It was carved by Charles Sargent Jagger and set up in New Delhi, in the late 1960's it was moved to Reading and set up in the gardens in 1971.

The Prudental Building

This was one of the buildings that was built for the insurance company Prudental during the 1980's when they demolished the old Huntley & Palmers factory, you can see how it looked by clicking on the link.

It's not a particularly  nice building but I did notice something on the roof just right of the center  Buddleia had started growing there.
Have a great weekend

Sun on the Hillside

I spotted a rainbow arcing over the hillside last Friday evening so ran off to get my camera forgetting I had a camera phone, this is what I ended up with.

Part of the disappearing rainbow.

Bulrushes

While walking round the lake at Fforest Fields campsite  I came across these bulrushes

The Blade

The Blade is an office block which dominates the town of Reading, the name comes from the sharp end of the building.

The photos were taken from the carpark at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and as you can see below the building is taller than the surrounding town
