The Thames at Goring

We all seem to be having our problems with the weather at the moment. Ice storm's over in Canada and high winds and rain here. People have been cut off without electricity in both country's over Christmas, hopefully this has now been sorted. A few days after Christmas I visited Goring to get some photos of a church and while I was there took some photos of the flooded Thames.

This is Goring lock from under the bridge
 Goring Bridge
This is the Thames looking towards Gatehampton. There is a young lady who wrote a blog and walked the path a few months ago, don't think she would want to try now
Remember the first photo, well this was what you were looking at.
I'll leave you with this photo of the Swan which on the Streatley side of the Thames. The Thames Path runs behind it. The pub was once owned by Danny La Rue though I never saw him there.  Happy New Year to you all and thanks for following my blog over the past year.

More from the Underpass

While taking photos of the last mural I also took the opportunity to  take some detailed ones of the Underpass not far away so over the next few weeks I will show them.

This is the detail on a couple of the panels. They are painted on White tiles though there is a little bit of tagging going on along the underpass most of it seems free of crap. The Painting seem to be of West Indian background and may have a story to it that I would need to find out about

Christmas Day

Christmas day I have been going out for the last few years taking a photo around Midday for an online project. Normally I go out of village but today I went down the village green and took my photo (I'll post it another day) After I walked to the rail station to get some and got these for Skywatch Friday.

I felt the sky here was worth getting a photo of, it looks towards a bridge we call silly bridge
Turning round the sky was just as nice over the station
Walking along the platform I took this towards Silly Bridge only this time showing the station. Happy Skywatch

A year on

A while ago I posted a view of the flooded Kennet at County Lock in Reading. It was taken on Christmas Eve. Well as usual my Son and I had our trip to Reading and I took my younger son a few days shy of Christmas eve and took the opportunity for a few photos this time with a little less water.

Last year most of this was underwater and the weir was almost flat

This is County Lock when the water is not quite as high though after all the rain we had it is a lot higher than normal.

Christmas Lights

I took these photos a few years ago when I was going to Bolton to pick my son up from Uni. I stopped off at the Orchard Center in Didcot to get some photos of the Christmas Lights. They were taken early in the morning before dawn.

This last photo was posted back in June

Back to the Mural

Remember a few weeks ago I posted a mural near the Orical in Reaing many of you said I should go back an take some individual photos of it well I did and as it is Christmas I will post the all. I also took some of the underpass not far away so will be posting them in the future but less talking and on with the photos. At the end you will see a plaque telling you the story behind it.

This is the building it is on and belongs to a youth organisation so might tell you who the artist's  are .

The first part of the Mural by the road junction
The section with the window included in it. The explanation plaque is under on the wall.
The third part

The last part, I had to cross the carriageway to take the mural and way for there to be no cars to get in the way.
This plaque in under the second part of the mural and explains the meaning behind the mural. Hope you all have a great Christmas.

Just one more

Yesterday I said in my skywatch it would be the last one from work till I went back to work. Well I lied. On my way in I could not help myself and took this as I went in the building, the moon was in the sky and dawn was beginning behind me.

Have a great weekend

Winter market

So there I was in Newbury the other week and saw a big wheel and helter skelter, I thought there must be a fair on. Last weekend I had a quick look and this is what I found.

This was not the best time to visit as it was raining

Not seen one of these in years a Helter Skelter

Unusual type of stall

View of the rides and stalls

This guy really needs bigging up. I thought he was selling tools and I was looking at them when he said they were all chocolate
Cop a load of that, you would think they were wrenches but it's chocolate

Good old German beer on sale
And a look at the Big wheel with Homer in a Santa outfit. BTW I have been on top of the building you see over to the left. Amazing view.

Grafitti on the Bridge

Took this photo a few years ago now. It made me smile as the Bridge had obviously been freshly painted and there was a single Tag on it.  The footbridge crosses the railway and takes you from Osney Cemetery to Oxford.
