Claerwen Reservior

The Claerwen Reservoir was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on the 23rd October 1952  and is one of the huge reservoirs in the Elan Valley. We go and visit a when we are in Wales so this time I took a couple of photos from the top of the Dam

Looking down from the dam slipway and along the river Elan

Which you can see heads off along the Valley to the next reservoir

Go over the other side and you look up the Claerwen Reservoir with fluffy clouds reflecting in the water

I'll leave you with the panoramic view of the Reservoir

My wife & I visited it one day during the summer and while there I took a few photos round the Garden

Along the side of the walled vegetable garden and garage is this border

Yard through the Gate

A few weeks ago I posed a mural of a dragon on the wall on a building in Builth Wells, well I just happened to be walking past the building the other day when I noticed the door had been shut an on it was another mural showing the yard beyound and there you could see the back of the cat you saw in the window. It has to be on eof the best shop doors I have come across.

First this very patriotic balloon flew past

Next was this multicoloured one

I managed to ge a good shot of the two balloons

Then Oxford Balloons went by

Then this checked one

This one was a one man balloon

By this time the first two had changed hights

By this time all tha ballons  had gone past and I got this shot of them at different hights before they landed over the other side of the River Thames

Agatha's Birthday

If you had walked around Cholsey or Wallingford in the last few days you would have seen posters & flyers like this around the place

They were advertising the Agath Christie weekend where events were taking place in both Wallingford & Cholsey

There was even a big banner on the old village post office fence

Cream teas were being served in Pavillion (village hall)

and if you were lucky you might even bump into Hercule Poirot

The whole churchard had been cut & cleaned up for the event and flowers decorated her grave
I looked at the dates on here headstone and saw she was born in September 15th 1890, the event was to celebrate her birth

Going back I heard a steam train and went over to the churchyard wall to get a photo of it taking people to Wallingford as part of the even

Any one recognise the train. Yep it's Ivor the Engine which is looked after by the Cholsey & Wallingford Railway

The Annunciation

I happened to be in Cholsey Church Sunday for a quick look round as part of the Agatha Christie weekend and noticed this screen behind a glass door in the South Transept. It was locked because it was being a construction area for work being done there so you were not supposed to go in but they left the key in the door so who am I not to have a quick look and get a photo.

The screen was part of the choir stalls and I think it is well worth preserving for people to see.
